Privacy Policy

1. Data We Collect

Account data: When you create an account, we collect your email address and a hashed password. This is stored in our backend database for authentication and account management.

Usage data: We track the number of daily corrections associated with your account or anonymous session for rate limiting. This count is stored temporarily and does not include the content of your corrections.

Anonymous usage: Users without an account receive a randomly generated anonymous identifier stored locally in your browser. This identifier is used solely for rate limiting and is never linked to personal information.

2. Text Processing

Text you select and submit for correction is transmitted through our backend to OpenAI's API for grammar and spelling correction. Our backend acts as a relay — it does not store, log, or retain your submitted text. OpenAI's handling of your data is governed by their Privacy Policy and Data Usage Policies.

3. How We Use Data

Email address: authentication, account recovery, and communication about your account.

Usage counts: enforcing rate limits per your subscription tier.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond providing the correction service.

4. Data Sharing

OpenAI: Submitted text is sent to OpenAI's API for processing. OpenAI does not use data submitted via API for model training.

Cloudflare: Our backend runs on Cloudflare's infrastructure. Account data and usage counts are stored in a Cloudflare D1 database. Cloudflare does not have access to the contents of your corrections.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any other third parties.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Account data (email, hashed password) is retained until you delete your account. Usage counts reset daily. Anonymous identifiers are stored locally in your browser and can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser data or uninstalling the extension.

6. Extension Permissions

The extension requests the following permissions, used only as described:

activeTab: Access the current tab's text only when you click the extension icon — never automatically.

scripting: Replace selected text with the corrected version when you accept a correction.

storage: Store your authentication session and local preferences in Chrome's built-in storage.

7. Cookies & Local Storage

The extension uses Chrome's local storage API to persist your authentication session and preferences. Our website does not use tracking cookies. No third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services are used in the extension or on our website.

8. Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We will notify users of material changes to this policy via email (for account holders) or through the extension.
